Arawn – Celtic King of Annwn and Lord of the Otherworld

Hand-carved wooden statue of Arawn, the legendary ruler of Annwn, the mysterious Otherworld of Welsh mythology. He is one of the central supernatural figures in the First Branch of the Mabinogi, where he appears as the king of Annwn and a powerful otherworldly ruler.

Arawn is first encountered by Pwyll, Prince of Dyfed, while hunting in the forest. After Pwyll offends Arawn by interfering with his hunt, the two exchange appearances and kingdoms for a year and a day. Pwyll takes Arawn's place in Annwn and defeats his rival Hafgan, while Arawn rules in Dyfed. Their unusual encounter eventually becomes the beginning of a lasting friendship and alliance.

Arawn is closely associated with the mysterious Otherworld, supernatural hunting and the Cŵn Annwn, the legendary hounds of Annwn. His character represents mystery, sovereignty, the wilderness, magic and the boundary between the mortal world and the Otherworld.
